Completed in 1874, the Victorian-Romanesque building at 670 Broadway was designed by architect George E. Harney.  Despite it being only 5-stories tall, its bulky presence occupies nearly half a city block, on both the Broadway and Bond Street sides. It features a granite base, decorative bands of red brick and sandstone, a bracketed brownstone cornice, cast iron storefront details, and original arch-headed windows.

CANY provided due diligence services and preliminary cost estimates, eventually developing construction documents and specifications for a $1.8MM façade restoration and $1MM sidewalk vault reconstruction.  Both projects including bid leveling, submittal review, construction contract administration and close-out. Façade restoration work included brick and sandstone repair, including patching and pinning, and mortar joint repointing.  The final scope of work also included repair of the original arch-headed wood windows and railing installation at the roof.  CANY worked closely with city agencies including the Landmarks Preservation Commission, Department of Buildings, Department of Transportation, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority to develop sensitive repair solutions appropriate for this historic building.
